“ Slavery is founded in the selfishness of man’s nature – opposition to it is his love of justice.” —Abraham Lincoln
I decided to have my picture taken beside the statue of Abraham Lincoln that our city has placed on the grounds of our Community Center. Who better for a Dressember Advocate to share a bench with than the former President Lincoln, who was an abolitionist.
He said: “I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.”
And I do agree with him and the many other abolitionists, slavery is wrong and we all need to stand against it.
Modern Slavery as they call it nowadays, does exist. It is real.
As Teresa May says: “It is all around us, hidden in plain sight. It is walking our streets, supplying shops and supermarkets, working in fields, factories or nail bars, trapped in brothels or cowering behind the curtains in an ordinary street: slavery.”
As a Dressember Advocate I have been wearing a dress everyday this month to raise awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking and what we all can do to fight against it. For as William Wilberforce said: “You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.”
Today is “Double Donation Day”–your donation of any amount, given today only before midnight EST, will be doubled. Please consider giving to help us fight this modern slavery and abuse of humans worldwide. Links to give are listed below. Thank you. Leona
