Book Review of The Long Road Home by Amanda Mason
A Bluff Creek Novel
Amanda Mason has written another great story! The Long Road Home is her second novel and I have to say I enjoyed it as much, or perhaps more, than her first book “A Mountain Worth Moving.”
Jake Rawlings is the main character in this story. He is the perfect example of someone who is living a self-centered life, seeking success and failing at every turn he takes. He feels that the world should revolve around him and everything he wants, and when it doesn’t, and his plans fail and troubles ensue, he blames God for it even though he isn’t at all asking for God to direct his life.
Raised by godly parents, Jake turns his back on God, his family, his friends, and his little hometown of Bluff Creek, and moves to the big city to pursue the rich and famous life that he feels he deserves.
Yet, Jake eventually finds that sometimes plans don’t always turn out the way we think they should and when that happens perhaps God has other plans for our lives, and if we disregard God and keep going our own way we often find we are making a mess of our lives as well as others lives also. As Isaiah 55:8-9 says: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” declares the Lord.
This book will grip your attention from the beginning. The characters and the story seem very realistic and as you watch Jake’s life unfold you will find yourself riveted to reading what is coming next. It is a page turner for sure.
I recommend this book for those who enjoy books filled with a small town vibe, that focus on faith, God, and second chances.
I received a copy of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
